conquering my orthopterophobia

I really hate scuttly things. Before we got married, Mom made James promise to deal with any centipede or millipede infestations at our house. Since we bought new, we haven't had issues so far; but that still doesn't mean I'm safe. There's plenty of creepy-crawlies at work, many of them deliberately brought in by me. 'Cause I'm stupid or a good teacher or something.

100 of these arrived in my classroom today:

And they were gross and scuttly and jumpy and one escaped and I had to act all calm while half the kids went "EW!" and jumped on their chairs and the other half went "COOL!" and chased them down.

In addition, there were 100 of these:

which aren't so scuttly, but some of them were big enough that they were almost like miniature millipedes. I wasn't supposed to visibly recoil, but some of the kids noticed my discomfort as I was spooning them into cups for them to examine. "You don't like bugs, huh, Mrs. M.?"

Correct.

On Monday I have to get three of the crickets into each of the terraria. I plan to ice them first.

Ew.

I'd like my bonus now, please.

My mother used to keep earthworms for lab in the fridge in the same opaque containers she used for refrigerator cookies. I may be permanently scarred.

Well, ours are much smaller than that.
