Bottom, actually, or part of it ... but that's okay, because we like the flavor (marionberry-filled) of the bottom best (that's why we got that section the biggest). We also still have the white chocolate piano from the top. It may stay in our fridge forever.
Well, since we met in choir it was easy to go for the musical theme. :)
The cake was the one thing I insisted we pay real money for. My dress was from a show and therefore free; the music was by friends and therefore free; the catering was by a technical college and tasty but cheap; the flowers were mostly from the Farmers' Market ... but the cake, oh, the cake.
I *heart* culinary programs at technical colleges. Most of the food I've had from them has been really good. I remember I had a piece of carrot cake once from an event catered by LWTC culinary. I don't like carrot cake but it was the best I've ever had.
Yeah, I don't blame you for wanting a gorgeous cake one bit. ;-)
We got married in California so I was relying on what I could find on the internets and by my MIL's recommendation. Our wedding was very cost-efficient overall but there's some areas we could have explored further to save money. It all worked out in the end. :-)
Exactly, it all worked out. And it's not like you're gonna do it over, right? Don't know about you, but: a) I was glad to have one and b) one wedding was more than enough for my lifetime.
But yeah, why does anyone pay full catering prices when RTC can do whatever you want for $10 a head?
Man almighty do I agree with you there. My wedding was wonderful, special, and everyone had fun. I had it where I wanted to have it, we served the food we wanted, and it all worked out.
But to do this again? NO. Big fat NO. We had about 25 people and it was busy enough. The only thing I'd do again is go dress shopping, because I had so much fun trying on wedding dresses. :-)
$10 a head? No kidding? That's so incredibly cheap. Did they do setup and provide all the chafing dishes/serving tools too?
You know, this cracks me up, because I mentioned to M that it was a year today, and his response was "You mean it's been a whole year since we had that awesome cake?"
Mmm, cake. There's still lots of it, too. Y'all should come down and have some; lord knows we don't need to eat all of it. And it feels like a year since we've seen you (though I guess it's been since Thanksgiving?, which is still too dang long). Is work-sanity approaching anytime soon?
Actually the last deadline was this past Friday. So it is still busy, but not like it was. I need to snap out of "Post major deadline slack mode", though. I have way too much to do to be a-slackin' like I am.
We should do something sooner rather than later, since I think both M and I are between deadlines right now - apparently something just released on his project. Let's plan something :)
Well, and two weeks from now we'll be in China! God, we need to figure out what's up with the cats.
Anyway. This coming weekend, maybe dinner or something on Saturday or Sunday? Or a baseball game, but that's prolly not M's cuppa. J has inventory Fri/Sat, but claims it'll be an easy one this time.
Either would work, really. I'm also more than happy to bring whatever, since you'll be providing cake :D
Oh, and let's not forget that the arch was free, and most of the greenery on it was free, since they sorta stole it from around the lake. Those were some nice-lookin' weeds on that arch.
Sunday, then. Not that I've thought about menu at all, but if you have some produce we could do something interesting with, bring it on. Right now all I have is tomato flowers, lettuce and herbs.
Hmm, I have green tomatoes that won't be much help, but maybe I'll have a zucchini ready to pick by then, we'll see. I will likely have some sugar snaps, though I don't know how many. We're getting to the tail end of those.
What herbs? I have herbs, too, so I will be happy to bring stuff you aren't growing.

Date: 2007-07-23 04:54 pm (UTC)Mine was from Safeway. It was pretty but nothing gorgeous. We couldn't find a cake topper we both liked so we didn't get one. :-)
