It has been brought to my attention (hi, [livejournal.com profile] keypike!) that I haven't posted here in tra la la a month. That's bad even for me. So! What have I been up to?

I got my hair cut and highlighted. I passed into the second half of my 30s. I got a night off in a hotel thanks to [livejournal.com profile] amiable_lyons. I wore a corset in semi-public. I passed the 20-pounds-lost mark for the year. I've been exercising 3-4 times a week and I think the habit might even stick (though summer will be a test). I quit the choir but I'm about to start my first yoga class. We had a pleasant party gathering to force people to share James's birthday cake. I've been cooking TONS and working on my gluten-free mama blog, including this week's adventures in frying chicken paste.

Work has been full of drama. My boss is completely incompetent and getting more so every year. Never mind the academics, we also have some financial scandals brewing--don't tell the press, 'kay? I pretty much only have my job because the principal needs someone to save her ass on a regular basis and I'm good at that. Which means I'm part of the solution and part of the problem and a total enabler. I like having a leadership role, but I'd much rather have it in a healthier working environment. My favorite co-worker is applying elsewhere. I look at jobs elsewhere and fantasize about opening a kid-friendly gluten-free bakery instead.

There are 5 weeks left until summer, which I'm really looking forward to. I start the summer with a full-week workshop. The boys will go to preschool twice a week and I'm hoping Ellen and I can find some swimming lessons. I need to research that. I also need to find a hotel for the second part of our London trip and I need to Skype with [livejournal.com profile] ewigweibliche so we can plan our side trip to Wales. London breaks the summer in half, so here's hoping the SAHM gig won't feel too tough.

I'm tired this week. I never had period/hormone issues as a teenager, but I'm making up for it now with cramps and a piercing headache and a super-angsty mood. Super. Bobby's had two rough nights in a row despite the sticker bribes. Today I did a workshop for the teachers that went over well. Tomorrow evening I do a different workshop for the after-school tutors. I'm not ready and I'm helping to chaperone a field trip to the Seattle Art Museum all day, so I guess it'll be kind of half-assed. Oh well.

But I've been reading! OK, I read a really crappy and shameful book, but also a book about preparing for Mars excursions and Gabrielle Hamilton's memoir and the sequel to Holes. And I obsessively read news about the Hunger Games movie like I haven't been a fangirl since Trixie Belden or at least Lilithfair.

Aren't you glad you asked?

More focused posts to come. Maybe.

Totally. I'm still in the liberal "this would've been a great opportunity to give an awesome role to a person of color" camp, but I think it'll be good. And even if it's horrible I will attend every one.

Can't wait to see you on Saturday.

Hi hi!
I am guilty too. I think? FB makes it feel like meaningful posts have happened but really? No.

My mother arrives today let's skype in June, ok? Yesyesyes.

I am disappointed I missed your birthday. I wanted this year to start remembering my favorite LJ friends' birthdays and their kids' birthdays too. I thought this will be the year I start! But, fuck.

And no shame about the SVH. I ate those books like candy in the 7th grade. I still haven't read Hunger Games, but I will!

hi!

yes, I'm glad I asked!

I'm sorry I missed your birthday. Were you born in 75? (I was...)

Sorry to heart that work is a bit of an emotional drag. I think your bakery idea sounds awesome ;)
