Yesterday I was at school, but I wasn't teaching. Instead, I was leading a math workshop for each grade-level team in the building. It was so much fun talking to people about the details of the curriculum at each age level--it really felt like what I was supposed to be doing. There are jobs like that at the district level, which I'll look into for the future; in the meantime, this builds my resume.

Okay, so yesterday I got through the kindergarten, first and second grade workshops. Today was supposed to be third through fifth.

Except my class behaved so badly that the substitute teacher decided not to come back.

The kids got an earful from the principal, the vice principal and me, and they had to do WASL packets all day, but they still got what they were trying for: I was back in my classroom, the workshops postponed.

The take-home lesson? Act like an ass, and you'll get what you want.

Super.

Not good that the kids acted up and scared away some poor sub.

But I have to ask: Isn't it also kinda, a tiny amount, sorta ... flattering?

And proof that you are awesome?

Secretly? Yes.
Thank you.
